Project Description

Begin your cultural tour with a 30-minute Royal Martial Arts performance held on the landscaped grounds of a private martial arts school. A cultural tradition inherited from the Nguyen Dynasty, the skilled performance demonstrates several different martial arts techniques. Continue to the home studio of a celebrated artist who specializes in lacquer painting, a uniquely beautiful and time-consuming art involving multiple layers of lacquer on wood. Next, visit the private home of the late Diem Phung Thi, a renowned academic and sculptor where you can admire over 250 sculptures, embroidered pictures and other pieces made of precious woods and metals from her collection.

We then journey to the XQ Historical Village to observe the fine art of silk embroidery created by some of Hue’s finest artisans. Finally, learn about the art of Phap Lam, enamel painting and carving on copper. The art emerged in Hue in the early 19th century under the reign of Emperor Minh Mang and has recently been restored by Mr. Triet Do, a well-known expert of Enamel Hue. See the complete process of Phap Lam with the opportunity to create your own piece or pick one up as a decorative souvenir.
